Littoral cell angioma associated with extramedullary hematopoiesis and renal cell carcinoma: case report and review

چکیده
Littoral cell angioma (LCA) is a rare primary vascular neoplasm of the spleen that originates from the endothelial littoral cell lining of the red pulp sinuses. LCA has mostly benign behavior with a few reported cases of malignancy. LCA is associated with comorbid visceral organ cancers and immunosuppressive states. We report a case of LCA with synchronous renal cell carcinoma and features of extramedullary hematopoiesis. Histologically, multiple splenic lesions were found with anastomosing vascular channels lined by plump round cells. Within channels there were atypical hyperchromatic cells, later identified as hematopoietic elements, including erythroid precursors and megakaryocytes. Diagnosis was confirmed by the endothelial/histiocytic phenotype of tumor and of the megakaryocytes. To the best of our knowledge, this case is the fourth description of LCA associated with extramedullary hematopoiesis or renal cell carcinoma. Additionally, recognition of megakaryocytes in these tumors is vital to avoid false positive malignant diagnoses. Further clinical and molecular studies of LCA are needed to understand the pathogenesis and association to visceral organ cancers to provide appropriate surveillance recommendations.

Littoral Cell Angioma: A Morphologic and Immunohistochemical Study
Littoral cell angioma is a splenic vascular tumor of splenic sinus lining cells that is considered benign in general. This report describes a case of littoral cell angioma with no malignant histological features. The lesion is composed of anastomosing vascular channels resembling splenic sinus; they are lined by endothelial cells which show mitotic activity very rare. Immunohistochemically, ...

متن کاملDuodenal Metastases From Renal Cell Carcinoma Presented With Melena: Review and Case Report
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) metastasis to duodenum is very rare and only a few case reports are available in the literature. We here reported a patient with solitary duodenal metastasis presented with melena six years after right nephrectomy. The patient underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showing ulcerative mass at the second portion of duodenum and biopsy of this mass was consistent wit...

Renal cell carcinoma comprises about 2% of adult tumors. The overall 10-year survival rate of patients with RCC after nephrectomy is about 18-27%. The incidence of metastasis of initial RCC is about 24-28%, but this rate after nephrectomy is as high as 51%. The most common site of recurrence is the lung, however liver and bone metastases are common. There are many reported cases with late metast...
متن کاملMetastatic Renal cell Carcinoma Presenting as a clear-cell Tumor in Tongue: A Case Report
Introduction: Metastatic lesions of the oral cavity are extremely rare, accounting for approximately 1% of all malignant oral tumors. The most common primary sources of metastatic tumors in the oral region are, from the most to the least common, the breast, lung, kidney, bone, and colon. Renal cell carcinoma accounts for nearly 3% of all adult malignancies. It usually metastasizes to the lungs,...
